Have you tried natural cleaning recipes in your home?
Our journey into IVF got me interested in the synthetic chemicals in my home. We were the same as I guess a lot of households, especially in the UK, in that we had a cupboard under the sink FULL off abrasive cleaning products, all with toxic warnings on them.
I figured that having these toxic products sprayed all over my home, and then on the hands and feet of my son, could not be positive thing so started doing the research to find….basically any cleaning issue in your home can be solved with natural products you probably have in your cupboards already. They are just as effective (if not more so) with the added bonus of knowing they are safe around anyone in it.
You can pick up spray bottles from pound shop , invest in glass ones online or wash out ones you already have in your cupboard.
1. The All Purpose Cleaner: Great for cleaning kitchen counters and tables from disinfecting to removing sticky messes!
1 cup of white vinegar
1 tablespoon baking powder
A few drops of essential oil (we use lemon)
Top up with water
2. Window Cleaner: Vinegar wins again!
1 cup of white vinegar and top up with water. Using kitchen roll or old newspaper to wipe them leaves them streak free too.
3. Odour remover: Perfect for carpets, couches and mattresses
Simply sprinkle over baking soda. Leave it to sit for at least 30 minutes and then hoover up.
If you are worried about the smell of vinegar, fear not. It fades within 30 minutes (though I now associate it with the feeling of a clean house and much prefer it to the strong bleach smell of shop bought products) plus you can always steep citrus peel in it for a few weeks to change it to a beautiful orange zest in the air straight away.
*Disclaimer: As always check the labels on your products. Patch test fabrics and woods where possible.
