Netflix documentaries that will change your view of the world

Although I can get absorbed in a series (The Good Place, I’m talking about you!) my real favourites are documentaries. We hear so much fake, sensationalist  news, so many movies are full of effects, sometimes it’s nice to really learn about the real world.

So if you fancy finding out something new today, or pushing your perspective a little, here’s 10 Netflix documentaries that could change your view of the world…

  1. Planet earth

2. Blurred Lines

Find out what really happens inside the art world. Where does art come from, who decides it’s worth and why do people pay millions for it?

3. Miss Representation

This movie amazed me. I knew that women still aren’t treated equally in our society, but the research and examples they show in this is just shocking. Eye opening!

4. My next guest

All of David Letterman’s interviews are fascinating, but the one with Malala Yousafzai

5. Abstract

All about the art of design. From photography to cars, to Nike trainers to interior design. This is so fascinating both from a point of view of how these artists minds work and how their careers blossomed. Also from an editing point of view, the production team were amazing at making it feel you were in the mind of each artist.

6. Minimalism

“We spend so much time on the hunt, but nothing quite does it for us”. Whether you’ve already started your minimalism journey or not, this will make you rethink how you see “stuff”

7. Dirty Money

The chaos that the pursuit of money ensues. It’s really quite scary how far people will go and how many they will hurt

8. Betting on Zero

Heard of Herbalife? There is more than one company that is or comes very close to pyramid selling, but Herbalife are one of the biggest.

A huge example of why we need to ensure we don’t support these schemes and warn others not to get caught up in them

9. Small is beautiful

When we started looking for a house to buy, one of the criteria on my husbands list was size. Much larger than I felt we needed. Where does this obsession with size come from? Do we really need it? What would life be life if we lived in a tiny house and spent our time and money on other things? These people did exactly that and it’s magical.

10 Generation like

How companies are turning likes into gold. Where has this culture of social media likes come from? And what affect is it having?

Along the same lines. is the episode called Nosedive in the black mirror series

Want some more? Here’s my last Netflix documentaries list and a Netflix series list if you’re ready for a binge!

Would you add anything to the list? Have you watched these? What did you think?
